We are passionate about hiring locally in south wales and are always open to great developers joining our team. Each year we look to hire a number of graduate developers as well. If you like the sound of any of the roles below or want to explore working with us please get in touch via our contact form or hello@hoowla.com
Why we are great for graduates
Over the last 9 years we have a proven track record of hiring and developing local developer. You will not be stuck on a rigid program fixing bugs but given the chance to learn about all parts of the development process. Coding, software design, deploying and server architecture. As you learn what you like and don’t like you can grow into that area of the work. Adam our managing director is an ex-software developer and the whole business is developer led. The software is used by thousands of people a day and the experience of writing software that has to perform for that number of people is exciting. But we expect you to make mistakes and support you to develop your skills.
Who we are
We are Hoowla, an innovative and rapidly growing software provider to the legal and property industry. We are passionate about improving an industry, helping customers and solving problems. We strive to provide the very best software and an excellent service to our customers and are continually developing new and exciting tools to enhance our offering.
We are looking to hire a graduate PHP developer to work on both our in-house software project as well as varied client work. The position will start after exams and subject to the candidate’s availability.
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic development team with opportunities to grow with the company.
What we are looking for
You will be working on the development of ours and client’s software and be involved in all aspects of the technical development, programming, testing and implementing of our web based services.
The ideal applicant will have completed a relevant degree such as Computer Science or Software Engineering. Ideally you will have done a work placement as a PHP Developer, or have some kind of commercial experience, but this is not essential.
Most importantly we are looking for someone enthusiastic who loves to work in a varied and challenging environment.
Who we want
Skills are important, but so is attitude. We are a small team so there may be times when you will need to talk to customers as well as liaise with other companies that we work and are integrated with.

How would you like to write code that will be used by around seven thousand active users every day and tens of thousands every month. You would have a real say in how to design and build the feature as well as the direction of the business you are a part of. Be in at the ground floor of Hoowla and define your long term role in the business as we grow. We have doubled our business each year for the last three years. We do nearly everything in house so if you like creating things we want to work with you.
Our young and rapidly growing team at Hoowla is looking to fill the position of full stack developer. You are going to be working together on building our new features to our legal case management system based of ours and our users ideas. Mainly built in PHP the platform has many independent services that are build in different languages. The work is challenging, fun and frustrating but never boring. You have a say in how and where we go. Everyone in the team is part of business meetings and planning.
Hoowla currently is a business of 10 people and we operate as a close team rather than a large corporate. Though we all can’t wait to be back in the office we keep in touch via slack every morning and at the end of the day. We work hard and support each other when needed. We would love to find a developer in Swansea to join us in the office later in the year and remotely for now if we are the right fit for them. We have always supported remote working, even before the pandemic, but we also love working together in the same space, when safe.
What you will do:
You will work in weekly releases. A number of tickets will be assigned to you with some prioritised for specific dates. Each ticket will be either a large new feature that may take a few months to develop or a mixture of bugs and smaller changes to Hoowla that need to get do that week or the next. Some weeks you will challenge and push back on the tickets assigned and other weeks take more when they have got ahead of the queue.
